E - Community Employment
Obviously, there are many opportunities for gainful employment within the community, and “first dibs” on any such jobs should go to existing community members. Because any outsiders who are employed within the community will have access to the community grounds on a trusted basis, they must necessarily be screened to the same extent as the community would screen any prospective new community members.
Among the many possible occupations within the community are:
- Day Care Worker
- Elder Care Nurse
- Gardener
- Maintenance Worker
- Resident Manager
- Cook
- Maid
- Laundry Worker
- Tutor
- Recreation Supervisor
- Driver (Car Pool, Bus, etc.)
- Movie Theatre Operator
- Personal Shopper
- Automobile Mechanic
- Moving and Storage Workers
- Credit Union Worker
- Accountant
- Lease & Sales Specialist
- Pool Cleaner
- Doctor
- Dentist
- Pharmacist
- Security Guard
Initially, I would expect that the majority of the above (particularly medical and other professionals) would be obtained from the community at large on a contract basis. But gradually, over time, as circumstances warrant it, additional positions can be added.
The idea of hiring within the community’s own ranks is important. It means that we keep our money to ourselves and enhance our own economic survival first. It also means that these employees are trusted members of the community who will naturally look out for everybody else in the community because that is part-and-parcel of what this community is all about.
