Secure Our Borders!

One thing I am not a fan of is illegal immigration. In fact, I strongly believe that the total hypocrisy of the Bush administration is on display on our southern border. How can we possibly have a “war on terror” when we will allow any terrorist who can get into Mexico to freely cross into the United States? There is no real “war on terror.” Instead, we have a war on the US middle class! Our wages go down just a tad for every new illegal immigrant who adds to the bottom end of the labor pool and starts competing for jobs under the Law of Supply and Demand. For more on this point, please read my page on Immigration & Wages.

I just got solicited by Congress.Org to send a letter to my Senators on that topic. I kept it short, but I wasn’t too sweet. Here is what I wrote:

I’m sick of open borders that allow terrorists to enter the United States whenever they wish. I’m also sick of my middle class wages being pulled down by the law of supply and demand as low-wage illegal immigrants flood into this country. The first step, which should have happened in on September 12, 2001, is that we should secure our borders. The second step is that, once the borders are secure, all illegal aliens ought to be deported. If somebody has a good argument why more immigrant workers are required, then the third step can be to establish a new program to allow people who have never been illegal immigrants to apply to fill the jobs that Americans truly will not fill. But let those new immigrants comply with current law, submit to background checks, pay fees, and everything else, just as my Pakistani office mate did when he got into this country. Anything else, such as allowing any current illegal immigrant to earn their way to legal status is just totally unacceptable. They are criminals and thus ineligible to be immigrants.
