About Mr. Moderate
Once upon a time (so you know this is a true story) I took a test in a magazine to see if my political beliefs were most consistent with the left wing or the right wing. On one end, a score of zero and on the other end, a score of 40. I scored exactly 20, exactly halfway between liberal and conservative.
By 1992, I was so disgusted with both the Republicans and the Democrats that I supported Ross Perot for President. In 2000, I was on the National Committee of the Reform Party until Pat Buchanan sent in his goons to kick out everybody who dared to stand up to him.
George W. Bush forced me to give temporary loyalty to the Democrats, but the more I hung around with Democrats, the more I realized why I had never been a Democrat in the first place. But on the other hand, the extreme right wing and fundamentalist Christians have so captured control of the Republican Party that I can’t go back there, either.
So one day, while listening to that old Gerry Rafferty song, Stuck In The Middle, I decided to start blogging my hate and discontent at both ends of the political spectrum. After all, if Rush Limbaugh and Al Franken can each have their own unfettered say about things, why can’t I?
When it comes right down to it, the real motivation for this blog is that I’ve finally reached the point where, like that great speech by Howard Beale (played by Peter Finch) in the movie Network, “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!!”
Squire:
Great site. I agree with most of what I’ve read so far. A pity that the 5% Center is excluded from an active moderating role in government and society.
Also, I’ll admit to being irritated (at myself) that you’ve beat me to this site, right down to the Rafferty quotes!
